My services
High blood pressure and cardiovascular risk
A comprehensive examination and treatment of difficult-to-adjust high blood pressure, blood pressure in special situations such as pregnancy, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases (e.g. heart attack or stroke) are particularly important to me.
- Diagnosis and treatment of therapy-resistant hypertension (uncontrolled high blood pressure despite 3 or more different blood pressure medications)
- Care for high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia during pregnancy
- Clarification of secondary hypertension (high blood pressure caused by other diseases, e.g. hormonal causes)
- Diagnosis and treatment of lipid metabolism disorders (cholesterol, triglycerides)
- Diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and pre-diabetes (precursor to diabetes)
- Advice on a healthy lifestyle, training and sporting competition
- Health check or preventive medical check-up
General investigations
I carry out extensive examinations in the surgery to clarify your complaints thoroughly and quickly. You will receive written findings and a detailed explanation of the results at every visit.
- Detailed medical history and diagnostic-therapeutic discussion
- Physical status (physical examination)
- Echocardiography (heart ultrasound)
- Resting ECG
- Long-term blood pressure measurement (“24h blood pressure”)
- Long-term ECG (“24-hour ECG”)
- OP release
Structural heart disease
Another focus is the treatment of changes to the heart walls or heart valves that can impair the normal function of the heart. They are often detected by ultrasound or other imaging procedures.
- Clarification of thickened heart muscle (left ventricular hypertrophy)
- Clarification of functional heart diseases (reduced pumping function) and heart valve defects
- Diagnosis and treatment of heart failure (cardiac insufficiency)
- Care for cardiac amyloidosis
- Care for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Care after heart surgery
After a planned or acute heart procedure, regular cardiological care is important in order to monitor the healing process, prevent complications and stabilize and improve heart function in the long term.
- Heart attack (stent or bypass operation)
- Catheter-supported heart valve interventions (TAVI, MitraClip, TriClip)
- Surgical heart valve replacement
- Electrophysiological examinations (e.g. atrial fibrillation ablation)
Inpatient care: As a senior physician at one of the largest cardiology departments in Austria, the Floridsdorf Clinic, I will accompany you in an outpatient and inpatient setting for specific examinations or necessary interventions if required.
My mission is to improve precision in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases through evidence-based medicine and continuous research. That’s why I always integrate the latest scientific findings into clinical practice in order to develop an optimal, individually tailored treatment strategy for you.”

PD. DDr. Gernot Pichler, MSc
Specialist in cardiology and internal medicine
During my medical studies at the Medical University of Vienna, I developed a strong interest in cardiovascular diseases. After graduating, I completed my residency in internal medicine at the University Hospital of Valencia, Spain, where I gained valuable clinical experience and worked closely with the internationally renowned blood pressure specialist Prof. Josep Redon.
In addition, I completed a master’s degree in infectiology and international health, was involved in cardiovascular research, collaborated with the University of Valencia and the INCLIVA Institute for Biomedical Research and was able to contribute to numerous publications. An important step was my research stay at Columbia University in New York, where I studied the effects of environmental influences on the cardiovascular system.
After returning to Austria, I completed my specialist cardiology training, obtained my habilitation at the Medical University of Vienna and currently work as a senior physician for cardiology at the Floridsdorf Clinic in Vienna. There I run a special outpatient clinic for structural heart disease and look after patients with complex cardiological problems. I am also an active member of the advisory board of the Austrian Society for Hypertension. Interdisciplinary exchange and ongoing scientific collaboration with universities in the USA, Spain and Austria remain central aspects of my work.
